Scootin
Arriving 11/4/2017
11/19/2017: Scootin’ is such a joy to have. He is very affectionate with adults and older children (12 yrs +). We have not had him around small children or babies at this point. He loves attention and is a happy wiggly, kissy boy. At just barely two he is high octane at all times. He is full of energy and curiosity which seems to get him into trouble when not watched carefully. He is extremely strong for such a small little guy and does not have good leash manners yet, he will pull, pull, pull until he gets to whatever it is he wants to see.
We have taken Scootin’ on several outings and have discovered he is NOT small dog safe, cat safe, chicken safe, rabbit safe, or bird safe. He is very reactive to other large breeds of dogs that do not look like greyhounds, but we are still working on that with him. Scootin’ does do well with the resident Galgo Espanol and the Doberman/Boxer mix. He LOVES all other greyhounds though. It is not surprising that this little guy wants to chase everything, he just got out of school to learn how to do that! He has a super high prey drive right now. None of the squirrels stand a chance in our yard! He would do great in an active home with other greyhounds and experienced greyhound owners. Since he is so young and full of energy he will need a lot of activities to keep him mentally and physically stimulated. He is crating nicely and will kennel up on command.
He has earned a comfy dog bed in there since he isn’t destructive. He has not been crated for more than a few hours at a time however. Scootin’ is working on his 8 basics with his foster family. Name Recognition, recall, kennel up, load up, sit (he is a natural sitter), down, leave it, and wait. Along with polite leash walking, standing politely for petting and riding in the car. He is doing great with load up and does it almost 100% of the time. He still needs a lot of improvement with riding in the car though, he thinks he needs to ride in the front seat or on the drivers lap. Scootin is 100% potty trained. No accidents or marking in the house. Good Boy! Scootin’ has a lot to learn but is so smart and food motivated that he will pick it up quickly. He is just so darn cute, it's hard to stay mad at him for his puppy antics.
