Greyhound Pets of America, Indianapolis

Adopting a greyhound is a serious commitment. The greyhound is unlike any other breed of dog, and GPA Indianapolis encourages you to do all you can prior to the adoption to ensure that you are making the right decision. A good place to start is our About Greyhounds page.

February 22, 2010 - Erin has come a long way since her last update two weeks ago. It is much easier to pet her soft fur now… no more “speed bumps” along her sides from protruding ribs… I no longer crate Erin at all… she’s now free of any issues that would require crating… she had a couple potty incidents right after her spay surgery (poor kid was sore!)… but has no more issues with full house access when I am gone for a full work day. I do not see definite “alpha” or “submissive” traits in Erin… she just goes with the flow with other dogs… but I do sense that she will be most content with another dog in her Forever Home… but keep in mind that she is not cat safe, and I think she’d be iffy with purse-sized pups. A fenced-in yard would suit Erin best… for her energy level, and what may be a reluctance to tinkle while on-leash… even though she does a Big Happy Dance whenever she sees her leash and enjoys a nice walk. Erin did fine meeting several small human kids & their adults at a meet & greet on Sunday. Happy; Active; Adorable; Good; Smart; Comfortable; Confident... if you want a Fun Girl when she is awake (of course, she DOES rest & sleep like a typical grey… a lot!!!)… Get This Gal… her full registered name is Excellent Erin

August 1, 2010 - Cute, frienldy, outgoing, very waggy tail.

September 4, 2010 - This petite, beautiful little girl fit in with our other 4 greys immediately and did just exactly what they did (with tail wagging high). She crates well, but can be left out. We do, with our other 4. She is eager to please and learn. She loves soft, sqeeky toys, carrying them from the toy box, and hiding them all over the house. She comes when called by her name, recognizes no, come, stop, drop it, out, walk, and food time. She always gobbles her bone when coming in and comes back for seconds, taking it from our hand. She still wants to check out everyone else's food bowl, so we have to supervise eating time. Megan does wonderfully at meet and greets, going up to be petted and giving out kisses freely. She travels well, and loves to go in the car. She is a cuddler, who loves to lean against you and be where you are. She is young yet, and very playful. She is one of the darkest brindles we have ever seen, and her coat just gleems. Megan will have to be in a fenced yard, because she will not potty on lead. She is going to make some family a wonderful, loving pet. Is it you?

August 1, 2010 - Beautiful girl, white markings, flashy, friendly.

August 27, 2010 - Hey, they call me Pride; the never met a stranger gal with a ready smile and happy tail. I’m figuring out all this retirement training stuff in a hurry… and I’m really good at all of it! The only thing that has me a bit puzzled is that, as it turns out, not ALL dogs are Greyhounds… Who Knew?! I became Fast Friends with my foster sibling greyhounds. I play like crazy with my foster sister when we go out in the backyard! My foster brother is a lot older than me, but we get along just fine too. I’m told that I’m the Perfect Houseguest… I’m social, don’t make messes in the house, clean my plate at mealtime, and am fine doing whatever everyone else wants to do, or content to just hang out in the family room or backyard. I’m ready for my Forever Family… are you ready for Me?!

August 1, 2010 - Cute, friendly, mellow.

August 10, 2010 - What an amazing girl! We have had Wilma for just over a week and she has already made so much progress! She is really excited now because she has mastered the stairs! She is very curious about her reflection that she sees in mirrors, windows, the dishwasher...etc. :o) Wilma crates very well and sleeps well through the night. While we are at work she really enjoys some music to keep her company white she is in her crate as well as her KONG toy with some peanut butter and a treat inside! She has taken interest in her stuffy toys and absolutely LOVES to take walks. She walks wonderfully on a leash and seems to take no interest in other animals or kids when we pass. Whoever takes Wilma into their home permanently is a lucky soul. She is wonderful!
